Global Peace Index (GPI)

The Global Peace Index (GPI) is a measure that ranks countries and regions based on their levels of peacefulness. Developed by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), the GPI assesses various indicators, including levels of violence, conflict, and militarization, as well as societal safety and security. It uses data from sources like the United Nations and the World Bank to evaluate peace in three domains: the absence of violence, the presence of positive peace, and the degree of militarization.

As of the 2024 report, India ranks 116 out of 163 countries, with Iceland, Ireland, and Austria in the top three positions. Conversely, Yemen, Sudan, and South Sudan are at the bottom of the index. The GPI provides insights into global trends in peace and helps inform policy decisions aimed at promoting stability and security.
